Womxn's Health
As a Kode With Klossy scholar, I had the privilege of working alongside a group of inspiring and talented individuals to create something powerful and impactful: Womxn’s Health. The initiative, born out of a shared passion for advocating for health equity, aims to provide essential resources to educate and raise awareness about women’s health issues, particularly the systemic discrimination faced by marginalized women, including those of color and the LGBTQ+ community. This experience not only deepened my understanding of health disparities but also shaped me into a more conscious advocate for inclusivity and change within the healthcare system.
The Genesis of Womxn’s Health
Womxn’s Health was created by Kode With Klossy scholars like myself, who were driven by a common goal: to address the gaps in healthcare education, access, and understanding. The project aims to educate users on the importance of recognizing and confronting discrimination within medical fields. We wanted to explore how health inequities disproportionately affect women of color and members of the LGBTQ+ community, while also offering actionable resources and education.
We knew from the outset that this initiative needed to be grounded in intersectionality. Women from diverse backgrounds face unique challenges in the healthcare system, which often fail to be acknowledged, much less addressed. Whether it's medical professionals ignoring the voices of Black women or transgender people struggling to find healthcare providers who are knowledgeable about their needs, these issues had to be confronted head-on.
Our Mission: Bridging the Gap in Healthcare Education
The central mission of Womxn's Health is simple yet vital: to raise awareness about the inequalities in healthcare and empower individuals with knowledge and resources. By educating the public on the medical and social issues that impact marginalized women, we hope to create lasting change in how women’s health is perceived and addressed.
Through educational tools, interactive resources, and clear, accessible content, Womxn’s Health seeks to provide a platform for individuals to educate themselves on topics such as:
Menstrual health and its intersectionality
Maternal health disparities in Black and Indigenous communities
The unique healthcare challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals
Mental health and the impacts of stigma and discrimination
The project encourages conversations about topics that are often ignored in mainstream healthcare discourse, aiming to create a more inclusive narrative.
Advocacy and Recognition
One of the highlights of the Womxn's Health initiative was being recognized in IBM’s Call For Code Daily. This acknowledgment provided us with a platform to further elevate our message and expand the reach of our advocacy work. Being part of such a significant project at Kode With Klossy not only gave me technical skills but also taught me how to effectively combine social good with technology.
Through this partnership, we’ve been able to create a ripple effect of awareness, empowering others to speak out, take action, and demand the changes that need to happen within the healthcare system. We’ve collaborated with various organizations, shared knowledge on social media, and held virtual events to engage with the wider community on these critical issues.
The Power of Collaboration and Community
As a Kode With Klossy scholar, I was fortunate enough to work with a team of driven, passionate individuals who shared the same vision for change. The power of collaboration was evident as we tackled complex issues together, with each person contributing unique skills, knowledge, and perspectives. Working in an environment that fosters support, creativity, and teamwork made this project feel like a collective movement for social justice.
It was also inspiring to see how our initiative resonated with so many people within and outside our communities. The impact of Womxn's Health went beyond just information sharing; it sparked important conversations, challenged existing norms, and encouraged individuals to become active participants in their own health journeys.
Looking Ahead
While Womxn's Health started as a Kode With Klossy project, it has the potential to grow far beyond its original scope. With more resources, partnerships, and continuous support, we can scale our efforts and provide even more inclusive healthcare education to people everywhere. I’m proud to have contributed to this cause, and I look forward to seeing how Womxn’s Health evolves in the future.
This project was not just an educational opportunity—it was a catalyst for social change. It demonstrated the power of using technology and community-building to address systemic injustices. For me, working on Womxn’s Health was a deeply transformative experience that has left a lasting impact on how I approach healthcare, advocacy, and the work I do in the future.
